VICTORIA - Jimmy Ratcliff of Victoria passed away Thursday, April 3, 2008. He was born April 19, 1928, in Houston, to the late Paul and Mary Ratcliff and grew up on the Pearce Estate Ranch in Wharton County. Jimmy, as he was known to family and friends, served his country from 1950-1953 in the U.S. Air Force before returning to his boyhood home.

He was married to the late Dominga "Dee" Ratcliff for 50 years before she preceded him in death.

In addition to his wife and parents, Jimmy was preceded in death by his brothers, Wesley Ratcliff, Bill Ratcliff, Paul Ratcliff, Ruben Ratcliff, and Manuel Ratcliff; and his sister, Corrine Barrera.

Jimmy was a wonderful husband to Dee and a dad who was very involved in his sons' lives, serving as Victoria Little League coach and Zone 3 coordinator, assistant Scout Master for Troop 247 and a member of the Stroman High School Band Boosters Club. He also had a great love and respect for the outdoors, enjoying hunting and fishing with relatives and friends.

Following his retirement from W.R. Grace, Jimmy started a successful sod, deck and fence business, instilling a solid work ethic in all who worked with him. He was a member of Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church and was a Cursillista (De Colores).
Jimmy is survived by his sons, James Ratcliff and his wife, Elaine, of Universal City, and former Sheriff Michael Ratcliff of Victoria; sister, Era Gomez of Albany, Ore.; and three grandchildren, Brianne, Brittany, and Bradley.

Visitation will be 5-7 p.m. Monday, April 7, 2008, followed by a rosary at 7 p.m., at Rosewood Funeral Chapels.
