Macon - Minnie Lee Herrington Varner Rountree, 93, former long time resident of Darien, died December 3 at John Wesley Villas, Macon.
A native of McIntosh County, she graduated from Wesleyan College in 1930 and from Emory University Nursing School in 1936. She taught school in Toomsboro from 1930 to 1932. She joined the U.S. Army Nurse Corps as a 2nd Lt. serving in a Rome, GA hospital during WWII. She was a member of the Daughters of the American Colonies and Daughters of the American Revolution and the Darien United Methodist Church. She was first married to the late Paul Varner of Darien and then to the late Earl E. Rountree.
Survivors: one daughter, Frances Varner Roberts and her husband Jimmy Roberts of Gray; two granddaughters, Sara E. Roberts of Macon and Cynthia R. Bradberry of Atlanta; and one great-granddaughter, Ella Varner Bradberry of Atlanta.
Graveside Services: 3:00 p.m. Thursday at St. Andrews Cemetery in Darien.
Remembrances: The Darien United Methodist Church and the Gray, GA United Methodist church Building Fund.
