Wilfred Manuel

Wilfred Manuel was born in Chatagnier, LA on July 20, 1917 and graduated from Chatagnier High School. He served in the US Army during World War II as an MP while in the states and in the medical corps in Paris. He was honorably discharged in 1946 and moved to Port Arthur where he became a carpenter and a member of Carpenter's Local 502.

He married Pauline Colletti in 1949 and built their house. After building houses for many years, he was a carpenter at Gulfport shipyard until his retirement in 1982. He was an avid gardener and fisherman. He was a member of St. James Catholic Church, the Holy Name Society, and served with the Society of St. Vincent de Paul for 32 years. He also volunteered at the United Board of Missions (UMB).

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, May 25, 2010 at St. James Catholic Church in Port Arthur with burial to follow in Calvary Cemetery. A visitation for family and friends will be Monday evening from 6:00to 8:00 p.m. with a rosary service to begin at 7:00 p.m. at Levingston Funeral Home in Groves.

Wilfred is survived by his wife Pauline Manuel and daughter Joyce Wilkinson, both of Port Arthur; son Glenn Manuel of Richardson; brother Fenrick Manuel of Opelousas, LA; granddaughter Laura Wilkinson of Austin; granddaughter Alice Oehlke and great granddaughter Kaitlyn Oehlke of Taylor; sister-in-law Josephine Colletti Peterman and her husband David of Dallas; and many nieces and nephews.
