Hiram Morey, aged 100 years, 8 months and 4 days, father of Hon. T.P. Morey of Greenville died at the home of his daughter, Mrs. w. A. Davis in Mulberry Grove on March 7, 1920.
He was born July 3, 1819 in licking Co. Ohio, a son of David and Harriet Morey and was one of a family of ten children. He came to bond county April 16, 1841, having learned from his brother of the great western prairies and the business opportunities of the frontier State of Illinois. He arrived on that date on the site of which was afterwards Mulberry Grove, which village he laid
out.
He first worked in the wagon shop of his brother, Henty and later purchased it and continued the business.
On April 18, 1845 Mr. Morey married Miss Eliza J. Brown of Fayette county and to them were born the following children: Mrs. Marion Sawrey, Mrs. Harriet Lilligh, wife of Henry Lilligh, Mrs. Henrietta Jones and Mrs. Ametta J. Davis, wife of W.A. Davis, all of Mulberry Grove, Mrs. Dorcas Willett, now deceased. Elizabeth A., deceased, Mrs. Celestia Murdock, deceased and Mrs. Laura Bell Snodgrass of Boston and T.P. Morey of Greenville and O.M. Morey of Los Angeles, California.
Mr. Morey's first wife died in August 1875 and sometime afterwards he married Mrs. Nancy Davis, who died many years ago. In his early politics, Mr. Morey was a Whig. He voted for William Henry Harrison in 1840 but later identified with the Republican party. Interment was in Mulberry Grove cemetery.
