William Claude Fergusson, 88, of Hamilton, died in the Hico City Hospital on Sunday, Jan. 3. Funeral services were held at the Riley Funeral Home Chapel on Tuesday, Jan. 5, with Rev. Robert Cavanaugh officiating. Burial was in Oakwood Cemetery.

Mr. Fergusson was born in the Blue Ridge community of Hamilton County on Jan. 2, 1900, the son of the late Robert Jeff and Id Rose Anna Grisham Fergusson. He married Ima Cleo Riley on Aug. 31, 1922. He had lived in Hamilton for the past seven years. Prior to that time he had been a resident of Midland for 27 years. Mr. Fergusson was a retired salesman for the Firestone Company. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Hamilton.

Survivors include his wife, Ima Fergusson of Hamilton; two daughters, Mrs. Bill (Claudine) Barkley of Hamilton and Mrs. Wallace (Ima Jean) Dunson of Lubbock; a sister, Mrs. Elsie Crain of Hamilton; seven grandchildren; and eight great grandchildren.

Serving as pallbearers were Danny D. Dunson, Thomas N. Dunson, Daniel A. Dunson, Billy H. Barkley, Jr., Robert F. Barkley, and Todd G. Barkley. Honorary pallbearers were Rowland Willeford, Bob Cochran, Melvin Schrank, Pete Gunn, Bob Miller, Guffie Barkley, Pete Jordan, and Kenneth Sparks.

When Claude & Ima married, they lived with Claude's Grandfather William H. J. Fergusson at Pottsville. Claude was farming here when Claudine was born. In 1926 they moved to Port Arthur, TX, where Claude worked at the Gulf Refinery. They returned to Hamilton before Jean was born and Claude worked the the Millers first delivering gasoline and then in Miller-Gunn Store. In 1954 they moved to Midland where Claude worked for West Texas Office Supply and the Reporter-Telegram before he retired in 1975.
