Michael attended school until he was 14 years of age when he emigrated from Ireland with his parents and landed at Quebec, Canada. From there they came by rail to Schuylkill County, PA where he worked in the mines until 1886, at which time he moved to Williamstown Pa and followed mining until 1888 when he retired.
He married Anna Fagan in Schuylkill County on August 3, 1850. Children: James, Julia, Thomas, Patrick, Andrew, John, Richard, Patrick 2nd, Margaret, Michael, Thomas 2nd, Elizabeth, Joseph, and one who died in infancy.
