Christina Margrette Hagedorn was born in Sipsdorf, Schleswig-Holstein, Germany. Her parents may have been Hans Hinrich and Ida Margrethe Christine Elisabeth (Siems) Hagedorn. Christina Margrette married Hans Dietrich Ehlers, a son of Claus Hinrich Friedrich and Maria Margaretha (Pruss) Ehlers, in 1861. They moved to Clinton County, Iowa, in 1865 and lived there for a time before moving to Crawford County, Iowa. Hans Dietrich and Christina had twelve children: John, Fritz, Henry, Richard, Rose, Emma, Bertha, Charles, William, Louis, Ed, and Emil Cleveland Ehlers.
