Ruth J. Whetstone Everest passed away Jan. 22, 1988. She was born Nov. 25, 1895, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Whetstone. Ruth Whetstone graduated from the first graduating class of Central High School in 1913. She received a teaching certificate from Central State College before her marriage to Harvey P. Everest Aug. 3, 1915 in the First Christian Church--they were married 72 years. She was preceded in death by a son, Harvey P. Everest, Jr. Survivors include her husband, Harvey P. Everest of the home; sons, Jean I. Everest and Howard H. Everest, both of OKC; 5 grandchildren, James H. Everest, Harvey B. Everest, Jean I. Everest II, Marilyn Everest Naylor and Mary Everest Tevington; 8 great grandchildren; together with sister, Mary Morell; and her brother, Baird H. Whetstone and his wife, Isabel; and a sister-in-law, Peggy Whetstone. Private burial services will be held at Rose Hill Cemetery, 10am, Monday, Jan. 25, 1988. Dr. J. Clyde Wheeler, former Pastor and a longtime family friend, will conduct the brief graveside service. Directed by Hahn-Cook/Street & Draper. (abstract, Daily Oklahoma 1-14-1988)
"Mrs. Everest was a member of the Coterie Club, Wednesday Revue Club, Music Club and Liberty Belles as well as a longtime member of the YWCA. She was also a member of Crown Heights Christian Church, and worked as a longtime Red Cross volunteer in World War II while her husband and sons were in the armed services.
