Rosanah McAlay married Patrick Haraughty in 1849. To this union were born nine children, five both and four girls, six of the children survive her. The couple moved from Pennsylvania to Ohio, and later to Missouri and from there to Texas in 1878, settling in Clay County where her husband died in 1887.
After her husband's death, she moved to Jacksboro in 1898 where she made her home with a daughter.
Mrs. Haraughty was a member of the Catholic Church, but as there was no local priest the services were officiated by Rev. J.D. Hester, pastor of the Presbyterian Church in the home of Mrs. Ward Risley in south Jacksboro.
She leaves a large family of relatives among whom are her son - Will Haraughty; two daughters - Mrs. Evert Johnson and Mrs. Ward Risley.
