John Francis, one of the early residents of Isabella County and a resident of the Gleaner Home in Alma for nearly 16 years passed away at Ken Bow Villa, Alma, Sunday, December 29, at the age of 97 years 5 months and 17 days. Mr. Francis was born July 11, 1849 in New York State. At an early age he came to Michigan, where he had resided in Isabella and Gratiot counties ever since. Funeral services were held at the Moody Funeral Chapel in Alma at 2:30 Tuesday afternoon, December 31, and burial was made in the Oak Grove Cemetery, St Louis. The Reverend Clark Phillips officiated at the final rites. The deceased is survived by two grandsons, Frank and Marion Harry of Shepherd and three granddaughters, Mrs. Robert Parsons of St. Louis; Mrs. Lester Hoard of Perrinton; and Mrs. Laura McFarlane of Lansing. He is also survived by 16 great grandchildren, nine great great grandchildren and six great, great, great grandchildren. His wife, the former Mary C. Whitney, preceded him in death by 45 years.
