Veteran Passes Away
John Wadwsorth was born April 5th, 1838, in the county of Ireland, and departed this life March 2, 1917, at San Antonio, Texas, aged 78 years, 10 months and 28 days. He came to America at the age of 26 years and located near Preemption, Ill. In 1864 he enlisted in Co. A. 37th Illinois Inft., and served until the close of the war, when he was honorably discharged. He was united in marriage to Miss Ann Blakely. March 18th, 1870 at Rock Island, Ill. There were born to this union four children, three sons and one daughter, all living-Mrs. Sarah Inman of Grinnell, Iowa; James Wadsworth of the same place; Robert B. Wadsworth of Garden City, Kansas; John H. Wadsworth of Mound Valley, Kansas. In 1870 he moved to Iowa where he remained until 1903 when he removed to Kansas, locating in Mound Valley, and remained here until 1908 when they removed to Garden City, Kansas, and remained there until November 1916, when he with his wife and son Robert, went to Texas to spend the winter, where he passed away. He leaves to mourn his departure a faithful and devoted companion, three sons, one daughter, fourteen grandchildren and one brother, besides many other relatives and friends. He was of the Episcopalian church faith. He was a faithful and true husband, a loving father, a man that loved his home, and was an honorable and upright man in all his dealings with his fellow men. The remains were brought to Mound Valley and the funeral services held at the Christian church Tuesday afternoon March 6th, with the sermon preached by his old comrade, Rev. J.L. Masters, and the burial services conducted by Mound Valley Post G.A.R., the interment in the Mound Valley cemetery.
