He married Emé (Aimée) Gauthier on 25 June 1816 in Avoyelles Parish but she apparently died shortly after their marriage. He married a second time to Vespasie (Vesparie, Aspasie, Especien) Ducôté on 15 December 1818 (civil). They renewed their vows in a religious ceremony on 20 April 1825 at the home of Joseph Ducôté in Mansura.
François and Vespasie had the following children: Vergus (Verjuis), Eugelien (Fugelien), Eusebe, Olympe, Artine (Arline), Céline, Henriette, Celanire, Adeline, François II, Gervais, Marceline, Arline.
