Obituary for Alfred 'Tip' Thibado:

"Accident Claims Life of Former Inlet Town Supervisor:

Former Town of Inlet Supervisor Alfred G. "Tippy" Thibado, 67, died Monday, December 24, when he apparently fell through the ice as he was attempting to cross Rondaxe Lake to reach a construction site on an island. The tragic accident occurred sometime after 9 a.m. when Thibado started across the lake and late afternoon when he was reported missing and a search got under way.

Thibado's body was recovered by volunteers from Old Forge Fire Department shortly after 7 p.m. Thomas Groves, Herkimer County Coroner, ruled hypothermia as the cause of death.

Thibado, of Big Moose Road, Eagle Bay, was the Supervisor of the Town of Inlet from 1972 to 1984, and served as the community's justice from 1952 to 1972. He was a self-employed contractor in the Central Adirondacks from 1956 until his death.

Funeral services for Thibado were held on "Tuesday, Dec. 27" [should read "Thursday"], at St. Anthony's Church in Inlet."
