Mr. Christian Kernen, the aged father of Jacob and Godleib Kernen, died this morning at the residence of his son Jacob on the Big Spring dairy. The old gentleman has been troubled with heart disease for the past four or five years, and it was that that carried him off this morning. He was born in Reutigen, Canton, Berne, Switzerland, but emigrated to this country and city in 1850, where he has since lived, with his family of eleven children, but six of whom are now living. His wife died some ten years ago, since which time he has been making his home with his son, Gottlieb. The old gentleman was highly respected by all who knew him, and will be sadly missed among the circle of his acquaintances. He was in the city visiting friends only yesterday, in his usual health, but while his death was sudden, it was not unlooked for by his friends.
