Funeral services for William Lawrence McEwen will be held Friday afternoon at 2:30 from the Atlanta Methodist Church. Burial will be made in the New Salem Cemetery.

Mr. McEwen was born February 7, 1874 in Ottumwa, Iowa, the son of John Francis and Mariah Caroline McEwen. He was one of a family of seven children. He moved to Kansas with his parents the same year he was born, his father homesteading a place eight miles east of Winfield.

In 1897, Mr. McEwen was married to Bertie M. Sellers to which union were born four children, all of whom survive: Fern M. Baum, Eloine Beardmore and John McEwen, all of Wichita, and Lucile Barnes of Atlanta. He also leaves three brothers, D. B. [Delos], L. C. [Louis] and F. R. [Fred] McEwen, and eight grandchildren.

George was born in Kilmarnock, Ayr, Scotland and died in Preswick, Ayr, Scotland. He died from congestion of the brain and heart disease. His son, John, was present when he died.

The cemetery inscription reads "In loving memory of George Steedman d 6 Oct 1891 aged 67; Elizabeth Simpson Howison wife of George Steedman d 16 Mar 1898 aged 75. In remembrance of Christine R. Howison d 6 Aug 1890 aged 66; their dau Helen Mitchell Steedman d 13 Feb 1901 aged 50."

The original parish record says George was born on the 14th.
