Willa Frances (Fran) Wyatt mcComas, 85, of Austin passed away Thursday, February 18, 2010 after a lengthy illness.

Fran was born on April 2, 1924 to Frank and Janie Christine Foster in Winfield, Kansas. She graduated from Capitol Hill High School in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma in May 1942. Fran married her high school sweetheart, Charles Edward Wyatt, after graduation. Soon after they were married, Charles was inducted into the U.S. Army Air Corps and sent to the European Theatre. While Charles was flying out of England, Fran went to work installing radios in B-17s at Tinker Field in Oklahoma City. She was literally "Rosie the Riveter" at a young age. On July 15, 1944, Fran gave birth to her only child Charles Richard Wyatt. Soon after the birth of her son, Fran was notified that her husband had been killed in action flying missions over Germany.

Later while working at Tinker Field, she met Paul McComas and they were married on September 1, 1946. Both Fran and Paul went to work for Southwestern Bell Telephone Company in Oklahoma City. They were later transferred to Austin by Southwestern Bell. She subsequently worked for Lamme's Candies, the Texas State Comptroller's Office and retired from National Western Life Insurance Company in 1995 after 31 years of service.

Fran was an avid reader and later enjoyed audio books. She treasured her association with the ladies in the Cob-Web Club and their bible studies. She looked forward to attending local theatre presentations and seeing all the latest Hollywood movies. Fran had a generous heart and a kind spirit.

She was preceded in death by her husband Paul and her daughter-in-law, Daisy Wyatt. She is survived by her son, Charles Richard Wyatt, of Austin; one sister, Wanda Swafford and her husband Vernon of Norman, Oklahoma; two grandsons, Wesley Wyatt and his wife Melody of Fort Polk, Louisiana; and Richard Wyatt and his wife April of Austin, Texas; and six great-grandchildren. Fran is also survived by her nephew, David Swafford and his wife Mary of Norman, Oklahoma; five great nieces and one great-great niece.

Serving as pallbearers will be Chuck Wyatt, Christopher Wyatt, Bob Busy, Larry Miller, Jack Robbins and Joe Dale Morris.

Funeral services Monday, February 22, 2010 at St. John's United Methodist Church, 2140 Allandale Road, Austin, Texas. Interment to follow at Cook-Walden Capital Parks.
