Peter N. Dalberto
Construction firm owner, avid Bulldogs fan
Peter N. Dalberto, 77, of Monroe Street, Berwick, died Saturday, Nov. 29, 2008, at the Berwick Retirement Village I, where he had been a resident for three weeks. He had struggled with health problems since 2000.
He was born Dec. 25, 1930, in Berwick, a son of the late Nicholas and Angelina Disedero Dalberto.
He served with the U.S. Navy during the Korean War.
Peter was self-employed and owned Dalberto Construction, retiring in 1984 due to his health. Before becoming self-employed, he worked for Columbia Masonry Construction.
He was a member of St. Joseph's Roman Catholic Church, Berwick; the Maria Assunta; Berwick Catholic War Vets, and the Shickshinny VFW.
Peter enjoyed carpentry, cooking, and his grandchildren. Peter was an avid Bulldog football fan. He was the leader of the Bulldogs "Bomb Squad" and spent countless hours building the fireworks displays that signaled the beginning of each home game. He could be seen in the backfield waiting for each touchdown so he could light off an aerial bomb to let the town know the Dawgs had scored again.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Peter N. Dalberto; three grandchildren: Adam, Noah and Jacob; three brothers: Tony, Joseph and James Dalberto, and a sister, Ann Alteri.
He is survived by his wife, the former Alice Yendrzeiwski, originally of Mocanaqua, and they had observed their 42nd wedding anniversary on May 1, 2008. He also is survived by three sons: Alex J. Dalberto and his wife Diane, James L. Dalberto and his wife Pam, and Kevin A. Dalberto and his wife Stephanie, all of Berwick; three grandchildren: Michael, Angelina and Andrew Dalberto; and two sisters: Julie Barski and Susan Bankes, both of Berwick.
A prayer service will be held Tuesday morning, Dec. 2, 2008, at 11 a.m. from the James L. Hinckley Jr. Funeral Home, 1024 Market St., Berwick, with the Rev. Dominick Mammarella, retired pastor and friend, officiating. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery, Berwick. Friends will be received Monday evening, Dec. 1, 2008, from 6-8 p.m. at the funeral home.
