Obituary - Mary Kaden
The funeral services for Mary Kaden were held at 2:00 p.m. October 19th, 1948 at the Immanuel Evangelical and Reformed church, Herndon, Kansas, Rev. Lichte Officiating.
John Grafel, Claude Franke, Harry Schrammel, Walter Portschy, Adolph Kleint and harold Neidermeyer served as pall bearers.
A quartet composed of Mrs. Donald Grafel, Mrs. Floyd Bryan, Mr. Donald Grafel, Mr. Henry Franke, sang "it is Well with My Soul", "Abide With Me," and "Rock of Ages" accompanied by Mrs. La Voe Fikan.
Mary, wife of Theodore W. Kaden, was born at Gols, Austria-Hungary, March 9th, 1872 and came to this country in 1875 with her parents, Paul and Susanna Schrammel, where they lived at Crete, Nebr. until 1880 when they moved to Herndon, Kansas on a farm 2 miles west of town. She was married the 6th day of June 1891 at Hebron, Nebr. and came back to Herndon in the Spring of 1892 and lived here until November 1921 when she and her husband moved to Kansas City, MO. In 1928 they moved to Lathrop, MO., and lived there until 1941 when they decided to move to Oregon, but stayed there only 2 years and came back to Herndon in November 1943. She had been in failing health for several years and suffered a stroke Friday, Oct. 8th and passed to her eternal reward Friday, October 15 at 3:00 p.m. at the age of 76 years, 6 months and 6 days, leaving behind her husband and four children: Clara, Willie, Teddy and Elsie, besides 2 brothers, 2 sisters and one half brother and 2 half sisters in Oklahoma; also 9 grand children and 3 great grand children and also a host of relatives and friends. She has been a faithful church member since her early youth, when she joined the United Brethern church, and attended services regularly until her failing health intervened.
She was laid to rest beside her mother in the Union cemetery of Herndon.
Out of town relatives who attended the funeral were: Roy Anderson, Casper, Wyo; Mr. and Mrs. Bert Grivinger, Orlando, Oklahoma, Mrs. Rose Messal, Mulhall, Okla., Dr. H.E. Schrammel, Emporia, Kansas, Mr. and Mrs. Chas. Cerrow, Plainsville, Kans., and Mr. and Mrs. John H. Wolfe, Atwood.
