Elizabeth was born to Thomas and Elizabeth Spencer (nee Mason). On May 13, 1817 she married Thomas Hanson, an agriculture labourer. They lived in Owston at the beginning of their marriage, settling a few years later in West Butterwick. They had eight children. Elizabeth and her daughter-in-law Hannah Hanson (nee Duty) both died from cholera on August 20, 1866 and were buried that afternoon.
