Steve grew up in the Bendavis community and attended Dunsmore School. He was united in marriage to Janice Reed on June 10, 1986. Together they raised their four children.
Steve farmed all of his life. He also hauled milk for the patrons of Producers Creamery and had a cattle hauling business. Through this business, Steve made many good friends with the area farmers and auction attendees. It was always important to him to be prompt and fair with everyone he did business with. He especially appreciated the opportunity he had to serve in law enforcement with the Wright County Sheriff's Department.
Steve faithfully attended Crossroads of Faith Church, serving the Lord with sincere joy. Steve loved to laugh and always had time for a good joke: he enjoyed people and he enjoyed life, especially when he was playing cards, playing pool, going on trail rides, or gigging. Friday nights were always "Catfish Night" as he had a standing date with his mother-in-law, Inda.
Steve was preceded in death by his parents and a baby sister, Marie Louise.
He is survived by his loving wife of their home, Janice; four children and their families: Rhonda Ice of Mountain Grove, Danny Murr of Graff, Missouri, Lee Melton of Mountain Grove, and Brandi Butts of Meriden Wyoming; seven grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; one brother: Bob Murr of Mountain Grove; one sister: Delia Fern Nesbit of Mountain Grove; his mother-in-law: Inda Dobson; and a host of other family, neighbors, and friends who will truly miss him.
