GEORGETOWN - Gertrude J. Ackerman, 77, died Sunday, Jan. 24, 1999, at home.
She was born June 1, 1921, in Horry County, a daughter of the late George Monroe Johnson and Roma Lane Johnson.
She was the widow of Benjamin L. Ackerman.
A charter member of Wayne United Methodist Church, she was a member of the Curtis Bell Sunday school class and the Morten Trammell Circle. She was a former kindergarten Sunday school teacher and was serving as the church membership secretary.
Survivors include two daughters, Carolyn A. Owens of Georgetown and Shirley A. Hendricks of Durham, N.C.; two sisters, Evelyn N. Richardson of Conway and Mildred Godbold of Marion; three brothers, James Johnson of Sacramento, Calif., George Monroe Johnson Jr. of Conway and Bill Johnson of Sumter; five grandchildren; a great-grandchild; and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a daughter, Mary Elizabeth Ackerman in 1961.
The funeral will be at 2 p.m. today at Wayne United Methodist Church. The Rev. Jody Flowers will officiate. Burial will be at Elmwood Cemetery Annex.
