Jeanette Mae Bassett passed away Wednesday, December 2, 2009 at the age of 93. Born in Bremen, IN July 11, 1916, daughter of Earl Huff and Hazel Margaret Schlosser
Jeanette came to Albuquerque in 1938. She married Jack Evins in 1942. Jack was killed in WWII just two months after the birth of their only daughter, Jean Etta Evins. After the war, Jeanette married Ralph Aden Bassett in 1946, and the couple made their home in Albuquerque and Santa Fe where Mr. Bassett served as Line Superintendent for Public Service Co. until his retirement. Mrs. Bassett was preceded in death in 1999 by her husband, Ralph; and her daughter, Jean, in 2007. Jeanette is survived by her sons, Ralph Albert Bassett and wife, Maryann, and Robert Bassett, all of Albuquerque; grandson, Mark Allala of Albuquerque; granddaughter, Catherine Massman and husband, Mike, of Denver CO; three great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild; sisters, Mrs. Margaret Moretto and Mrs. Martha Yeager, of Bremen, IN; brothers, Lou Huff, and Jim Huff and wife, Loretta, also of Bremen, IN; and many beloved nieces and nephews. Mrs. Bassett was a grade school teacher in Santa Fe for many years, always active in her church, and with her many friends. Forever she'll be remembered as a remarkable woman, for her quick wit and keen sense of humor, a great homemaker and cook, loved by so many. A memorial service was held for Jeanette on Thursday, December 10, 2009. She will be buried with her husband, Ralph, at the National Cemetery in Santa Fe.
