Opal Kathleen Worrell Marshall, 93, of Dugspur, Va., died peacefully in her sleep on Tuesday, November 24, 2009, at the Golden Living Center, Galax, from complications of a stroke she suffered on October 7, 2009.

She was born on April 25, 1916, in Hillsville, Va., to the late Chapman Brooks and Francis Gardner Worrell. She was a graduate of Hillsville High School and Radford University.

She was married to the late Ray Walter Marshall for 65 years and lived in Chester County, Pa., for much of their married life where she was an elementary school teacher in the Coatesville (PA) School system.
She was a former member of the Coatesville Presbyterian Church and was closely associated with the Honey Brook (PA) Presbyterian Church. She was a former member of the Buffalo Mountain (VA) Presbyterian Church and held active membership at the Indian Valley Presbyterian Church. She and her husband were members of the Coatesville Country Club and the Junior Dancing Club before retiring to Carroll County, Va., in 1998.

She is survived by one son and daughter-in-law, Gary and Linda Marshall, of Dugspur; and a sister, Mrs. Frieda Dickerson, of LaPlata, Md. She was preceded in death by brothers, Everett Woodrow Worrell and John Brooks Worrell; and sister, Clarice Worrell Houpe.

In lieu of flowers, friends in Pennsylvania may make contributions to the Honey Brook Presbyterian Church Building Fund and friends in Virginia may make contributions to Covenant Christian Academy, 122 Apache Run, Max Meadows, Va. 24360. Funeral Services will be conducted 11 a.m. on Saturday, November 28, 2009, at Vaughan-GuynnMcGrady Chapel with the Rev. E. Gary Marshall officiating. Burial will follow in the Alfred Marshall Cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour before the service. Vaughan Guynn McGrady Chapel is serving the family.
