Caleb Gowin, 79, a retired farmer, died at 12:35 o'clock Friday morning, April 22 at his home on East Office Strret after a long illness. Born February 7, 1887 in Marion County, he was the son of Samuel H. and Jane Watkins Gowin. He was a member of the Beech Fork Baptist Church in Marion County. Survivors are his wife, Mrs. Maggie Votaw Gowin; a daughter Mrs. Thurman Cornish, Bryan, Ohio; three sons, Clarence Gowin, Harrodsburg;Arlie B. Gowin, Bryan, Ohio and Allen Gowin, Bohon; four sisters, Mrs. Bell Ross, Cincinnati, Ohio; Mrs. Elsia Staton and Mrs. Mallie Curtis, Washington County and Mrs. Phoebe Burns, Jeffersonville, Ind.; for brothers, George Gowin, LaGrange;Sam Gowin, Bloomfield; John and Adam Gowin of Indiana; 11 grandchildren and two great grandchildren. Funeral services were conducted at 2 o'clock Sunday afternoon, April 24 at the Alexander and Royalty funeral home by the Rev. J.W. Knight. Burial was in Beech Fork Cemetery, Marion County. Pallbearers were John Goode, Lawrence Votaw, Cecil and Harold Curtis, Fountain and Lawson Hooper.
