Grace (Kuwada) Novitski passed away peacefully surrounded by her children in South San Francisco on October 24, 2009. At the time of her death, she resided at 2506 16th Avenue in San Francisco and 2160 Geary Drive in Santa Rosa.


Grace was born March 26, 1930 on the island of Lanai, HI and moved to San Francisco in 1947 after graduating from Lanai High School, to attend San Francisco State University.


After graduating, she began her teaching career at Candlestick Cove and then continued at Edison Elementary School. She taught in Nara, Japan from 1955-1956 where she met her future husband, Martin (Ski). They married and settled in San Francisco in June of 1957 and their devotion to one another continued until 2004, when Ski passed away. During their forty-seven years of marriage, they raised their three children. They also maintained a residence in Santa Rosa, where they enjoyed entertaining family and friends.


Grace continued her teaching career at Paul Revere Elementary School as Vice Principal and later Principal, until her retirement in 1985. Grace epitomized her name in many ways and was loved by many dear and devoted friends.


She will be dearly remembered by her daughters, Joan (Alan) Puleo of Montville, NJ, Julie (David) Godmintz of San Francisco, her son Michael (Miki) Novitski of San Francisco, grandchildren Matthew, Christopher, Joseph, Liliana, Martin S., and Madison. She is survived by her sisters Hatsue Okamoto of Vancouver, WA, Nobue (Lt. Col. Kim) Ching, of Alexandria, VA, brother Richard (Helen) Kuwada of Honolulu, HI and sister Jane (predeceased) (Tom) Thornburg of Kailua, HI. Grace is also survived by brothers-in-law, Edward (Lucy) Novitski, Raymond (Agnes) Novitski, Thomas Novitski, and John Novitski, all of PA, and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.


A Memorial Service will be held on Friday, November 20, 2009 at 1:00 p.m. in St. Cecilia's Church, 2555 17th Avenue, San Francisco.
Private interment at Santa Rosa Memorial Park.
