Laurent Augustin Pelletier de Chambure participated in the Napoleonic campaigns of Prussia, Poland andSpain. He distinguished himself at the siege of Ciudad Rodrigo in 1812, leading a 300 men against a far superior enemy in number. Although injured during the engagement, he managed to reach Salamanca with a hundred survivors.

Following Napoleon's defeat at Waterloo, he was sentenced to death and went into exile in Brussels for 3 years. He came out of retirement in 1830 during the July Revolution. He died of cholera in 1832.
