Electa, wife of Horace Hollister, deceased, was born in New Milford township,
Litchfield county, Conn., July 9, 1799, and died March 10, 1886, having reached
the advanced age of eighty-six years, eight months and one day. She came to
Palmyra in 1813, being fourteen years old. She was married to Horace Hollister
in 1819, and was the companion of his joys and sorrows for sixty-two or three
years. Nearly all of their years of wedded life were spent on the farm in
northwest Palmyra, where each died, he having preceded her by some three years
"to that country from whose bourne no traveler returns." Twelve children were
bornto them, five of whom are living, viz.: Ebenezer and Corintha Hollister of
Edinburg, Leander Hollister of Palmyra, Julia Weldy of Atwater, and Martha Weldy
of Beloit. It is not often we can record the fact of two individuals walking
together as these have done during a married life that spans two generations.
No doubt the steady and industrious habits of each tended to so desirable a
result. But they are gone, and henceforth their earthly lives is only in the
memory of those who knew them best, and walked with them as children, neighbors
and friends.
