Samuel, a farmer, was the son of Henry & Roanna (Pettijohn) Hurst.

His first marriage was to Sarah Antha Collins on Jan. 21, 1877. Some of their children were: Henry Aaron, Susan Cora, Vina Stella, Zeek, Lola, William D., Harman Oscar, Abner, Albert, & Grant.

Sarah died on Dec. 18, 1918. His second marriage was to his deceased brother's wife, Samantha Collins, in Douglas Co, MO, on June 1, 1922.

Dr. G.W. Taylor, of Almartha, MO, indicated that Sam had Rheumatism, which eventually led to his death from Valvular Disease of the Heart at 1:00 p.m. on May 16, 1931. He had lived 71 years, & 7 months.

His son, Harmon, was the informant on his death certificate. He was buried on May 17.
