Jackson P. Luther was born in 1841, in Izard County, Arkansas to John Luther and Sarah Chance. He was the 5th child born to his parents.

In 1850, aged 9, Jackson is living in District 45, Ozark, Missouri with his parents and siblings. On 20 July 1860, aged 19, Jackson is living in Walker, Conway, Arkansas.

On 27 December 1860, 19-year-old Jackson married 20-year-old Dinah Blackwell in Conway County, Arkansas. They didn't have any children born to their brief union.

On 5 March 1862, aged 21, Jackson enlisted at Point Remove, Arkansas into CO G 31st McCRAY'S ARKANSAS INFANTRY. He gives his description as 5'7" tall, Black hair, black eyes, dark complexion, and occupation as farmer.

On 20 April 1862, Jackson was reported on the roll as, "Absent sick". So it's possible he died from disease on 21 May 1862, in Tennessee. He was 21-years-old.
