Fred Schatz

The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Friday, Oct. 16, at Grace Lutheran Church in Eugene for Fred Schatz of Eugene, who died Oct. 9 of age-related causes. He was 96. Burial at West Lawn Memorial Park will follow the service.

He was born Oct. 28, 1912, in Puenta Alta, Argentina, to Caspar and Katherine Boppe Schatz. He married Doris Ann Engeldinger July 27, 1940, in Gliddon, Wisc. She died Sept. 2, 1986. He married June Kalien Dec. 27, 1987. She died Sept. 27, 2007.

He was a farmer, a lumberjack and a mill worker.

Survivors include four daughters, Doris Carl of Elk Grove, Calif., Elaine Pizzicaro of Roselle, Ill., Sandra Junker of Kalama, Wash., and Kay May of Amherst, N.H.; four sons, Fred Schatz of Hood River, John Schatz of Eugene, Donald Schatz of McKinnlyville, Calif., and Bruce Schatz of Vancouver, Wash.; and 17 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild. A granddaughter, Lisa Schatz, died in 1978.
