Julia Ann Elizabeth Strother, the oldest daughter of John and Sophronia Strother, was born 11 September 1874 at Hico, Lincoln Parish, Louisiana. At age 14, she married Matt Young on 6 December 1888 in Lincoln Parish. Matt was born 26 November 1868 in Louisiana to Jessie G. Young and Cornelia W. "Neely" Oxford. Matt's parents were neighbors to Julia's grandparents, Berry and Julia Strother, in 1870 in Claiborne Parish. Julia and Matt lived in Claiborne Parish and Lincoln Parish where they farmed.
