Due to the size of Pilgrims Rest Cemetery and graves so spread out over five acres, this photo is submitted for location purposes. McCULLARS grave is located on the old hill in an older part of the cemetery. Inscription faces west. (Flag pole will assist in finding these graves.) McCullars double tombstone appears cleaned - several stones to the right in the photo from the flag pole.

Today (Oct. 9, 2013), I found this memorial with Mr. McCullars' bio showing he, too, served in the CSA. I am so very sorry he wasn't listed with the other 17 veterans buried in Pilgrims Rest at the CSA memorial service. My apologizes to his descendants. I just simply did not find that record until I read this today. ngl


Civil War Memorial Service - Sunday, March 11, 2012 - Pilgrims Rest Cemetery. Turkeytown-Valley Camp Sons of Confederate Veterans and Etowah No. 1620 Chapter United Daughters of the Confederacy honored seventeen Confederate veterans buried in Pilgrims Rest Cemetery. In attendance was over 100 descendants, friends and community residents. Folks came from around the state of Alabama as well as Florida for this ceremony on a beautiful Sunday afternoon in Etowah County. (ngl)

Elizabeth and William's son, David Cicero McCullars, is also buried in Pilgrims Rest Cemetery.
