Saengerin und Schauspielerin
Fritzi Massary was one of the leading operetta singers in Vienna and Berlin. One of the divas of her generation, she was closely linked to Oscar Straus, participating in the creation of 6 of his operettas, including Der letzte Walzer in 1920. She also appeared in operettas by Franz Lehur and Leo Fall.
Despite her conversion to Protestantism in 1903, she had to flee Germany in 1932 because of her Jewish origins. She passed through Austria, Switzerland and the United Kingdom, where she befriended Noel Coward (she appeared in 1938 in one of his operettas). The following year, she moved to Beverly Hills where she resided until her death.
