"On June 6th 1944 (D-Day) the 501st Parachute Infantry Regiment Company D of the 101st Airborne Division parachuted in or around Carotan France. This was their first combat mission of the war, for Dale it would be his last. As he was floating to the ground, he was riddled with machine gun fire. Dale died before he even hit the ground. After two and a half years of vigorous training for the D-Day invasion he died without having fired a shot at the enemy."
