After graduating from Simpson College in Indianola, Iowa, in 1930, Goldie taught in a rural school in Norwalk. She then taught English, literature, and history in grades 7-12 for 37 years in Luther.
When she first came to Luther in 1930, she roomed at the home of Ira Luther, (the son of Clark Luther, for whom the town was named), directly across the street and south of the school.
Goldie married Will G. McVay in 1944. Following their retirements from the Luther School, they enjoyed many summers in Colorado. After Will's death, Goldie remained in Luther until 1987, when she moved to the Eastern Star Home in Boone.
Goldie Chandler McVay passed away on December 17, 2003, in Boone, Iowa, at age 97.
Information from the Luther, Iowa, Centennial Book, July 2-4, 1993, pp. 83-84; and from family history.
