Roscoe Thomas, age 89, a former Wellington resident, died on Wednesday, December 14 in Olton, Texas. Mr. Thomas was born on August 14, 1905 in Bowie, Texas. He married Bertha Bartlett on December 24, 1922 in Wellington. He lived in Olton from 1941 to 1986 and had lived in Eagle Pass from 1986 to 1991 when he returned to Olton. Mr. Thomas was a Baptist. He had owned and operated Thomas'New and Used Furniture and Laundrymat in Olton from 1950 to 1980. He was an avid rockhound and a member of the Plainview Gem and Mineral Club.
He is survived by a son, Harry Thomas of Olton; two brothers, Bill Thomas of Olton and J. D. Thomas of Tulia; four grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. He is also survived locally by a cousin, Zook Thomas. Mr. Thomas was preceded in death by his wife in 1979 and a son, Drummond B. Thomas in 1945.
