Former Alderman Passed Away at His Daughter's Home
John Grady, former alderman of the First ward, died yesterday at the home of his daughter, 155 Dale avenue. He was 67 years of age, and had been a servant of the municipality for many years. Up to the time of his illness he had been an inspector on the staff of the city engineer.
Ex-Alderman Grady was a political power in the First ward in the early eighties. He was elected to the council for several successive terms, and was prominent in municipal affairs. He was ex-Alderman Harry DeGraaf's colleague for part of the time he served in the council. In politics he was a stanch Democrat.
For a number of years past he had been employed in the engineer's department as an Inspector. When No. 10 engine house was in course of construction he was in charge as inspector.
During his term in the council he gained the title "Honest John." Mr. Grady was a contractor and builder for some years. He was also an architect.
The funeral will be held from St. Alphonsus' church at 9 o'clock Thursday morning.
