Paul married Mary Garver on August 25, 1956. Paul attended Huntington College in Huntington, IN. graduating in 1963. He served the United Brethren Church in Battle Creek, Caro, and Ithaca, MI.
Paul died suddenly of a heart attack, on Sunday night after church. He drove a school bus, loved to play golf. He was a great friend, because he was a very caring individual.
During his childhood, the Sheets family moved around, but "Pastor Paul" as he was affectionately known by the community, had roots in the Clare area. He graduated from Harrison High School in 1955. Rev. Charles Malson, a family friend was instrumental in Paul's decision to attend Huntington College, in performing their marriage ceremony, and in Paul's ordination into the United Brethren Church.
Paul, 54, was active in his community and a leader in the religious community as well. He had served on committees and boards of the Michigan Annual Conference. With Rev. Nolan Williams of the Ithaca Methodist Church, the 2 worked to form a local ministerial association of which Pastor Sheets was currently president. His influence extended way beyond his congregation as he was active in the communty as a member of the Ithaca Rotary Club and was president-elect at the time of his death.
He is survived by his wife Mary; a son, Joel; daughters, Jill and her husband Brad Gross of Breckenridge, Janine and her fiance, Tim Palmer of Ithaca; brothers, Froud of Beaverton, David of Traverse City, Phillip of Ludington, Bruce of Interlochen; sisters, Evelyn Lee of Marion and June Hladik of Harrison.
Funeral services were at the Ithaca Seventh-Day Adventist Chruch 12-18 with Rev. Malson officiating.
