Martha married John R. Wagaman on 28 Jul 1837 in Jessamine County, Kentucky. Martha's sister, Mary Dykes, was married to John's brother, David Wagaman.

Martha and John were the parents of 12 children, with the first 11 born in Kentucky. The Wagamans lived in Jessamine County for a short time before moving to the eastern part of Fayette County, Kentucky. They moved to Nelson County, Kentucky by 1848 and lived there until 1852.

Martha was a homemaker, and John worked in the grocery business with their sons.

On the move again, Martha and John relocated to Indiana around 1852. After 7 years there, they headed west in 1852. After several years there, they headed west in the late 1850's. The family eventually settled in Grand River Township in Carroll County, Missouri. Their youngest child was born there in 1858.

John and the Wagaman sons were again involved in the grocery business once they arrived in Missouri.

John died in 1865.

Martha lived for 35 years after her husband's death. When she passed away in 1900, Martha was 84 years, 8 months and 2 days old. She was buried in the J. J. Wagaman plot in Oak Hill Cemetery in Carrollton, Missouri.

DEATH OF MRS. WAGAMAN

As stated in Thursday's daily, Mrs. Martha Wagaman died Thursday afternoon about 1:45, aged 88 years, 8 months and 4 days.

Mrs. Wagaman's maiden name was Martha Dykes. She was born in Jessamine county, Ky., April 25, 1816, where she grew to womanhood. August 1, 1837 she was united in marriage to John Wagaman, at her home in Kentucky. Twenty years later, in 1857--they came to Carroll county, where she resided surrounded by her children until her death. Her husband died several years ago, since which time she has made her home in this city always one or more of her children living with her. She was hale and hearty in her old age until the past few months. Then she began to fail and at no time during her last illness did the children believe she could survive. She was taken with the last illness at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Asa Storms, and there she remained until the end came Thursday afternoon.

When a girl, the deceased joined the Christian church. When she came to Carrollton she again united with the church of her choice, in 1860, thus for 40 years she has been one of the faithful ones in the church here. Her life was the life of a Christian, and as long as her health would permit she was always found in her pew. Outside of the church her example was one which her children may well simulate.

Thus another of our oldest and most worthy citizens has passed away, but, as has been said of others, though she has crossed over, the world is better for her having lived.

Deceased leaves eight children--James J., Mrs. S. B. Albro, Jno. R., William H., Mrs. M. E. Storms, Chas. D., Marion F., and Edward L.

The funeral of Mrs. Wagman [sic] was held at 2 o'clock this afternoon from the residence of Asa Storms. Elder J. T. Ogle, pastor of the Christian church conducted the services. Interment followed at Oak hill. Her six sons acted as pall bearers.
