Baton Rouge, East Baton Rouge Parish, LA—Sunday, 27 July 2008

Alford, Kate P. "Nana"—A resident of Baton Rouge, she died at 3 a.m. Saturday, July 26, 2008, at home with Tim, Jane and Paralee at her side. She was 87 and a native of Morgan City. She is survived by a daughter, Paralee F. Alford, of Baton Rouge; a son and daughter-in-law, Timothy L. and Jane B. Alford, of Lexington, Ky.; four grandchildren, Mary Melissa Richmond, of Baton Rouge, Joshua B. Alford, of Charleston, S.C., Tyler C. Alford, of Kearney, N.E., and Steve A. She was a graduate of Morgan City High School and Southwestern Louisiana Institute. She was a member of Order of Eastern Star, PEO and Ikebana International Baton Rouge Chapter 42. "Farther along we'll know all about it, farther along we'll understand why." Nana received all the answers on July 26, at 3 a.m. with Tim, Paralee and Jane at her bedside. It was a peaceful end to a life so full that it would take days and volumes to chronicle. She was a lady of rare dignity and grace who truly touched the lives of all she met and never met a stranger. The faithfulness of her friends was a testimony to the love she enjoyed and it buoyed her in her final days. Her love of family was boundless and her energy extraordinary. She had "things to do" right until the very end, working in her beloved garden and being with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. In lieu of flowers, donations are requested to Hospice of Baton Rouge.
