Josiah was born in St Thomas Parish, Warwickshire Co, England, came with his family to Canada prior to 1857 when on 7 Dec at the age of 19 he married Nancy Ann Bowerman age 16 (daughter of Beadle Bowerman, mother deceased), in Norwich Township, Haldimond Co, Ontario, Canada.
In Oct. 1876, when Mary Jane their oldest daughter was 16 years old, the family moved to Minnesota. They arrived at the port of Buffalo, New York, in October and took out their first naturalization papers on November 28, 1876. The second papers were signed Dec. 17, 1883.
Nancy and Josiah had 13 children prior to Nancy's passing in 1898. Only 7 of those children lived to maturity, two died of diphtheria and were buried in the same coffin.
It is reported that Josiah married a French Canadian women some time in the early 1900's but nothing has been found about her. What is known is that Josiah and his wife came to Junction City, Ks., about the 1915 era, kept house for Josiah's grandsons Neal & Ralph.
Mary Jane returned to Junction City after the death of her 2nd husband and Josiah moved in with her, his wife went back to Canada.
Josiah came down with the flu during the 1918 flu pandemic and succumed on Apr 22.
