Jim married Barbara Mae Fields on September 25, 1949 at Beverly Hills, CA. He and Barbara were blessed with 5 children, all born in San Pedro.

James John "Jim" Trani, lifetime resident of San Pedro died peacefully at home with his family at his bedside on Wednesday evening, January 10, 2007. Born and raised on 15th Street, Jim served as Student Body President at both Dana Jr. High and SPHS. He was Captain of the high school football team and was All-City center in 1943. After graduating with the class of '44 he joined the Navy serving as a Radioman, Second Class in World War II. Discharged from the Navy in 1946 Jim became a Trojan and played USC freshman football for the next two years. In 1948 he began his 40 year career as an Insurance sales agent for Prudential. Jim's love for San Pedro led him into coaching baseball at Eastview Little League. He was one of the original founders of the San Pedro Girls Bobby Sox League in 1969. He also served as president of both the SPHS Pirate Booster Club and the SP Lions Club. Survived by his wife of 57 years, Barbara (Fields); son, Doug (Ingy) Trani; daughters, Tricia (Bob) Prescher, Diana (Bill) Coffman, Marcia Trani; his grandchildren, Alisha (Jeff) Ledlie Bent, Cassandra Coffman, Desire (Scott) Morris, Keith Coffman, Heather Trani; sisters, Louise Rose and Helen McClung, and 18 nieces and nephews. Prededed in death by his parents, Francisco and Caterina Trani; sister, Phyllis (Jack) DiMeglio, and brothers, Nick (Millie) Trani, Tony (Katie) Trani, and Lou (Cecila) Trani. Jim was loved by all and will be greatly missed. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, January 16, 2007 from 1:00-7:00pm with a Vigil service from 7:00-8:00pm at McNerney's Mortuary, 570 W. 5th Street, San Pedro. Funeral Mass will be held on Wednesday, January 17, 2007 at 10:00am at Holy Trinity Catholic Church, 1292 W. Santa Cruz Street, San Pedro. A reception at the Trani home will be held immediately following the interment at Green Hills Memorial Park. Donations can be made to the SPHS Pirate Booster Club, 1001 15th Street, SP, CA 90731 or SP Lions Club, 1814 Vallecito, SP, CA 90731.
