Elizabeth Ridge Brumback Fowler was born in 1852 in Plumstead, Bucks, Pennsylvania. When she was about three years old, the family moved to Westfield, Bureau, Illinois. In 1880, they were in Brenton, Ford, Illinois, and it appears that Elizabeth and her two sisters (Iva and Anna) attended the prestigious Onarga Grand Prairie Seminary in Onarga, Illinois. On the 1880 census in Ford County, they were all listed as school teachers. Elizabeth's mother, Rebecca Ridge Brumback, died in 1884 and is buried in Chatsworth, Ill. On a 1990 census in Herrington City, Kansas - her father William Brumback - was living with her youngest sister Cora Brumback (who it appears never married). Her father followed with Cora sometime after the 1900 census in Kansas.
