William and his first wife, Matilda (Patterson) were married May 14, 1835 in Cairncastle, Antrim, Ireland and came to America shortly thereafter. Their first two children, James and William P. were born in New Jersey. By 1840, the family shows up in Cass County, Illinois. They purchased land there in 1845. Henry, Robert, John, Eliza, Elvin, Stewart & Milton were born before March 10, 1853, when Matilda died. William immediately married Ann Boyle (Sept 28, 1853) and they had Samuel, Maggie (died in infancy)and Nannie!! Will and Ann died three days apart and are buried here.
