Born in Germany, he came to America on the same vessel as his future wife Caroline Amelia Perskey. On 13 Dec 1854, they were married in Hancock Co., OH. William Hennings was a shoemaker by trade and he worked at the same in Hancock County until the last year of the Civil War, when he enlisted in the Union army and served for nine months. He acquired a farm in Portage Township, Hancock Co. and resided there during the rest of his active life ,retiring to McComb, where his death occurred. His wife had died previously in Portage Township.
