Janell Wood Conner passed away peacefully on May 16, 2009, at the Conner family cabin at Anderson Ranch Reservoir in Pine, Idaho. Surrounded by family and friends, and listening to her favorite Fleetwood Mac song, Janell met God after a six-week, intense fight with lung cancer.

Janell was born on April 6, 1954 in Caldwell, Idaho to Floyd and Margaret Wood. Growing up in southern Idaho, Janell and her three siblings, Sherri, Brenda, and Mark, lived, worked, and played in the outdoors. Janell belonged to 4H and, later, she chased the boys from Caldwell. She graduated from Marsing High School in 1972.

Janell attended the University of Idaho and was a member of the Alpha Phi sorority. She remained a die-hard Vandals fan, if only to irk her husband and his brother Doug, who are both devoted Bronco supporters. After a stint in college, Janell returned home and accepted a position with the Farm Home Bureau. It wasn't long, though, before her sense of adventure (and her friend, Doris) persuaded Janell to move to northern Alaska, where the two young women found work in North Slope Borough on Prudhoe Bay (pop: 5). Following her adventures in Alaska, Janell returned to Idaho and resumed her career as a government employee, working for several government agencies. For the last ten years, Janell worked side-by-side with her husband to create a thriving construction and property-management enterprise, Chris Conner Construction, LLC.

Chris and Janell, two free spirits, first met on April Fools day. On April 28, 1984, after two years of serious courting and numerous rendezvous in Europe, Janell agreed to marry Chris. Thus began a life-time of adventure and a bond that only grew stronger. The couple traveled extensively and then started a family. Two wonderful children were born: Courtney in 1985 and Clayton in 1992. To no one's surprise, they took after their mother. They built their dream home together, a mountain cabin that has become a get-away place for friends and family. And in between, Chris and Janell celebrated life: they went downtown for Alive-After-Five dates, they cheered on the Idaho Steelheads and the Boise Broncos; and they went to the horse races. In the winter, they invited friends to go snowmobiling; in the summer, it was water-skiing and driving ATVs.

Janell is survived by her husband of 25 years, Chris Conner; her children, daughter Courtney and son Clayton; father, Floyd Wood (Winkie) and mother, Margaret Wood (Al Davaz); sisters, Brenda Knopp and Sherri Wood, and brother, Mark Wood. And in-laws, Kitty Stewart (Monte) and Doug Conner (Liza). Janell was preceded in death by her parents-in law, Clarence and Laura Conner, as well as Grandparents Harvey and Winfred Bennett, and Elmore Wood.

The family would like to thank all of their family members and dear friends for their help these last few weeks. In addition, they wish to thank the friends at the YMCA and the Building Contractor's Association. Special thanks to Jan Wilson and the Hollenbeck family.

Contributions in Janell's memory can be made to the Clayton Conner College Fund (Washington Federal Savings & Loan, Broadway branch), to the American Red Cross of Greater Idaho, or to the charity of your choice.

A viewing is schedule for Wednesday, May 20, 2009 from 6:00-8:00pm at Cloverdale Funeral Home, 1200 North Cloverdale Road, Boise, Idaho. Janell's services will be held at 2:00pm, Thursday, May 21, 2009 at the Trinity Presbyterian Church, SurpriseValley. A formal burial will tentatively take place on Friday morning, May 22, 2009 at the Meridian Cemetery at 895 East Franklin, Meridian, Idaho 83642.
