Rachel was the daughter of Jacob and Johanna Dix. She was born on Grosse Ile, but the family later moved to a settlement a few miles downriver from Detroit, near the Rouge River. This became known as the Dix Settlement.
Rachael married Ben Woodworth July 26, 1807. Ben was well-known in Detroit as the owner of the Steamboat Hotel, which stood at the corner of Woodbridge and Randolph streets. Ben and Rachael were the parents of Abigail, who married Charles Ewing of Fort Wayne, Ind., Samuel L.,b. 1809; Anna Maria (Brown), b. 1811, James,b. 1825, and Frances (Cummings) b. 1832. Another son drowned in the Detroit River. At the time of Rachel's death, she and Ben were living with daughter Frances Cummings in St. Clair.
