Chester Durham was born September 13, 1932 in Jackson County and departed this life Saturday, January 13, 2009 at the Central Baptist Hospital in Lexington, being 76 years of age. He was the son of the late Bradley & Pearl (Witt) Durham.

On September 1, 2001 Chester was united in marriage to Edith Durham of Richmond, KY. In addition to his wife, Chester is also survived by three children- Patricia Durham Tincher & her husband Thad of Hamilton, Ohio, Shawn Dwayne Durham & his wife Angie of Berea, KY and Brian Scott Durham & his wife Beth of Richmond, KY and by three step-children- Jimmy Newby of Richmond, KY, Marty Broaddus & his wife Amber of Richmond, KY and Debbie Brown & her husband Don of Atlanta, Georgia. He is also survived by the following brothers and sisters- Curtis Durham of McKee, KY, Burgess Durham & his wife Louise of Sand Gap, KY, John Durham & his wife Siedy of Homosassa, Florida, Fairy Turner of Sand Gap, KY, Sandy Nichols & her husband Ernie of Lexington, KY and Pam McCarty & her husband Kevin of Lexington, KY. Chester was blessed with one granddaughter- Melissa Tincher Jones & her husband Bill of Hamilton, Ohio; by five grand-children- Shawn D. Durham Jr., Taylor Durham, Katie Durham, Jacob Bale & Nicole Bale; by three step-grand-children- Renee, Rachel & Rochell Brown and by four step-great-grandchildren- Hailey & Chase Brinegar, Cameron Caccamo & Breail Brown.

In addition to his parents, Chester was also preceded in death by his first wife-Eudell (Murphy) Durham, by one great-grand-daughter- Brooklyn Faith Durham and by the following brothers- Leonard, Floyd, Lester & Harold Durham.

Chester was a veteran of the United States Army, serving in the Korean War.


Funeral service was held 1:00 PM Tuesday, January 20, 2009 at Lakes Funeral Home with Bro. Carroll deForest officiating. Burial followed in the Durham & Powell Cemetery. Lakes Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements. Pallbearers were Shawn Dwayne Durham, Brian Scott Durham, Thad Tincher, Marty Broaddus & Rick Howard. www.lakesfuneralhomemckee.com
