Vivien Horace Emmer was born in 1891 and was a successful homebuilder and real estate executive in St. Louis, MO. Together with Albert Aufrichtig he developed sections of Ganondale, in University City. He was very active as a volunteer with Troop 90 of the Boy Scouts.

The Emmers lost both of their sons, Wallace N. and Raymond P. Emmer in WWII.
