Blanche Nathan Emmer was born in 1893 in Camden, NJ. After losing both of her sons in WWII she was interviewed by St. Louis journalist Virginia Irwin for a very moving article in the local newspaper. In July, 1944, Irwin had interviewed her oldest son, Wallace Nathan Emmer, at his base in France only a few weeks before he was shot down and captured by the Germans. He later died at the Dulag Luft POW camp in Wetzlar, Germany.
